"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

A PLACE LIKE ANY OTHER

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "SING A SONG OF SIXPENCE":

18:40 - Who exactly is "you" and "we"?

There seems to be a real difficulty for some here in seeing the town as a whole, rather than as petty, perceived factions.

********************

I do have trouble seeing the whole town as an amorphous blob. Everyone  of a  mind ready to accept whatever foolishness is fed like pablum through a straw to a toothless infant.

It has been said and I loved it when I heard it and wished I'd
said it. "Consistency  is the hobgoblin of little minds"

For all the time I've lived here Aurora has  been a place
of robust opinion. Much like other places I imagine.

One can be an individual. Or cling together for support
with others. Part of a camera club ,book club,an association of artists or a garden society.  Or If words are a forte write a blog and exchange ideas

Anyone with a particular interest can seek  help from the town's recreation department in locating or creating an association.

It's a good place to be with everyone doing what they like and paying what it costs.

Not so great when I am taxed  to pay for someone else's taste in culture.

I object to that and I don't mind saying so.  Again and again
until the message is heard.

My neighbourhood is in a constant flux, not all of it for the better. But we can still get together when something has to be done for the whole. I saw that happen with the s-e designation. People who barely knew each other worked on both sides of that and then went their separate ways.

There is a very stinging letter to the editor in this week's Auroran in connection with the Family Leisure Complex, recently reopened following a huge cost overrun and time delay.

I won't mention any names but the writer points out enough failings to make the project appear to have been carried out by thoughtless minds with no idea about how the various facilities are supposed to function.

To me this is a far more serious subject than the constant yammering about the Culture Centre. There are more words and space devoted to this town building than are warranted.

Why don't we all just accept that this venture will never be financially self-sustaining? Its Board should continue to have to provide an operating budget in advance for approval by Council as well as justifying any desired increases and its Board MUST be forced to meet and function with full public scrutiny.

The fact that the Mayor and one Councillor sit on this Board as it continues to operate behind closed doors is totally unacceptable and pressure MUST be brought to bear on these two elected officials to bring about a change.

There is no excuse or possible reason that makes rational sense to meet "in the closet."

He was so outraged, 20:08, that it took him over three weeks to compose the post?

20:08 - That's a very low bar.

Oh yes he is so cute.... of course the copyright infringement of the Alice in Wonderland picture should get the WD lawyers churning!
